K my valves have been giving me hell. They sound like a ticking time bomb and i have adjusted them a bunch of times. I adjust them and by them im talking about the exhaust valves. the other ones sound and are adjusted fine. any ways i adjust them to .004 and they still tap. They arent moving at all from when i adjust them but right after i adjust them they move when i test them with my fingers. My buddy who works on motor all the time says he thinks i may have ruined the cam. Does that sound right and if so what does changing a cam consist of? Is there anything in perticular i should change while im in there? Also what does a stage 2 hot cam do really? Thanks

I don't know about the 300ex do they have adjustable rocker arms or the shims like the 450's, any way your valves may be sucking up into your head need to have them checked which you will have to remove the head to do this, and the hot cam will give you more bottom and mid range power its not that hard to change the cam out.

There adjustable i think. Theres a 10mm lock nut that i have 2 loosen up. What would cause the valves 2 get sucked up in?

Oh crap i dont have that kind of money but wear seems evident its old and the ppl who had it b4 me were dumb they had the exhaust valves adjusted almost all the way out and the other ones adjusted all the way in. I think when i ran it way lean it may have been the death of my cam hopefully not anything else.:icon_frown:

Well for one thing the cam could be work or the rockers or the crew that rests on the valve. So you'll have to dissasemble the holw thing to see.And hot cams doesn't make a stage 2 for the 300ex.Only a stage 1.

I'd do the stage one.It gives a good mid to full throttle boost.

Webcmas offers from stage 1 to full race but all cams require hardfaced rockers. my engine ticks as well and i have all new parts inside. the ticking you hear may be the side to side motion the rockers have.

moose when urs taps does it tap when ur going through the rpms and get faster the faster u go?
To me, it sounds like your cam and rockers are worn, but I can't say for sure, because I am not there to look at it. That's what it sounds like, though.

Yeah pretty much like that. I though of trying .003 instead of .004 to see if that would help any but I think it's the side to side motion I'm hearing.
