hey everyone. I've got an issue with the throttle not opening all the way on my 300ex. the throttle works fine until it gets about a 4th of the way open and it will hang up and not open any farther. i can push on it harder and it will unstick and open the rest of the way. it doesn't do this all of the time but it seems do it worse the longer i run it. i have looked at the throttle linkage on the carburetor and there is nothing bent or out of place that i can see, and the cable is moving freely also. any help will be much appreciated thanks.

Unhook the cable from the throttle linkage and see if the throttle linkage moves freely from idle to WOT. If it does, make sure the cable moves freely while it's unhooked from the carb. If the carb linkage moves freely with the cable unhooked, I would say the problem is in the cable or the thumb lever on the handlebars.

Okay so i did what you guys said and my throttle cable moves perfectly and its not running next to the exhaust or the cylinder head. my throttle linkage on the carb moves freely as well. its really weird what it does. if your holding a certain throttle setting below 1/4 throttle it will hang up when you try to accelerate, but all you have to do is let it idle for 10 or 15 seconds and the throttle moves freely from idle on up. and whats really weird is it gets worse when its low on fuel.

ummm..does your carb have a vaccum piston on the throat needle ?..or does it use a metal arm to raise it ?..you need to take your carb off..and inspect all of it..something is binding inside your carb..and i'm betting it's your throat needle piston !.

if you look right where the the rubber sheathing is crimped to the 90 degree metal end that goes into the carb I think you will find that the coating has pulled away from the crimp.
