Hey guys, my dad has a 2001 300ex that has ran great all it's life and now is starting to act funny. The bike will get super hot just puttin around the yard for about 10 minutes and loses a great amount of power once warmed up. Any thoughts.? Thanks.

Possibly an intake valve is lashed too tight... or an intake valve is sticking open due to heavy carbon buildup in a valve guide, or possibly has a broken valve spring...?

I'd start by adjusting the valves exactly as the service manual outlines and while you have those valve covers off use a small flashlight and mirror to look around under the cover for any clues. Check the valve lash for each valve with feeler gauges before you loosen the adjustment locknuts.

It could be a couple other possibilities too... but do the valves first, then let us know what you find.

Thanks, I checked the valves once already and they were gokd but that was a while back. Will do it again and look around in there like you said.
