I have a little play in my axle hubs. which is more common, the spline in the hubs to wear out, or the spline on the axle? which should I replace?

Plus i've seen new hubs that are a inch longer, is this better than spacers?

Thanks

they both wear out..no giv'n time frame..it's always best to keep them tight at all times...as too when and which one goes bad..no telling...your best bet is to see which one is worse..and the cheapest to replace..more than likely the hub splines are the worst..hard to tell without seeing them. just see which one is stripped the worst..then decide cost wise which one you can afford. longer hubs is probally better..sinse you don't have anything that can turn on the axle if your hub gets loose..i would go with longer hubs if it were me.

I agree with Shadetree. Since the axle and hubs are mating parts, when one wears, so does the other.

I have not pulled them yet so it is hard to say what thay look like. the slop is not to bad compared to
some I've seen. So buying the longer hubs comparerd to the wheel spacers are the way to go? I know
a longer axle is the best, but just not in the budjet right know.

I think it's pretty common for the hubs to wear, as they are a softer metal then the axle.

I just put my 02 300ex hubs on my brand new Durablue rear axle, and they have a very slight play to them, not enough to worry me, but it's something to keep in mind for the future.

I think OEM part sites want almost a $100 a piece.
