Just get nice 300EX plastic, you will actually devalue the machine by putting on the "wrong" type..

I like the old rounded plastic, just like the cars everything is going back to extreme lines and sqareness, I am a smooth round fan for sure.

i agree with huffa! those new plastics with all the points sure are sharp... a little pun intened, but just think when the wheeler rolls over... those things are going to catch and bend and then look like the nose of a paper airplane when it nosedives... idk, the 300ex/ 250x is one of my all time favorite looking machines. then 1999 honda 300ex is my favorite year for the color choice and grapic choice. im also a fan of the gen 1 honda 400ex's.

Absolutly mine too, I swear they were made better back then too with the square instead of rounded frame, the 250/300 were also much easier to work on I think.

I liked the 1st gen 400 too, would have bought one but think it is rediculous that they not have reverse on them so had to get a 05.

My favorite color scheme for 250/300ex is the 91 I had here ....

yea my buddy had a 91 X that was spanked so when i told him about me getting an 87 he was all like "those are slow" blah blah blah... of course they are slow compared to whats offered today. but you can lug these things down low all day long where as a new 450 would need a new clutch after an hour of clutch slipping lugging. I also used to have an 05 400ex which i traded for an 05 450R (regretfully) it was the first thing i ever bought brand new (the 05). i thought i needed more power. for some reason a wheelie in 5th isnt enough power. i just wish i paid off more stuff and bought a new 450 and kept my 400ex. i would definately buy another 400ex some day.

oooops I meant 92, thanks for the correction

Correct me if I am wrong but dont the 250 and 300 have a seperate grab bar on rear rather then having a removable sub frame like on the 400's, a lousy set up too, now if you bend the "grab bar" you cock the whole sub, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???

I think alot of the stuff that goes into Honda machines is dumb. Like the ball joints, sub frame, and a-arms. Good thing for Honda is that they are smart, they know that the part will go bad and you have to come crying back to them to replace so its a sales device if anything....

Speaking of ball joints, I just noticed one tire tilts in at top, it is a fairly low hour 05 400, dissapointed that it shows signs of replacing already...do I have to buy a whole arm?

Unless they are aftermarket, yes. Its a stupid design that Honda came up with to make money. If I were you, I would make sure no more than two are wore, if they are, its a cheap route to go with aftermarket. I recommend JD Performance Racing A-arms +2 are the best for stock travel because with +3's you have to buy longer brake lines which $65 from JD....It's $575 for stock travel a-arms plus $20 shipping. Just loook at my sig for any more questions (call him).

question

Just bought a 93' TRX 300 EX and its needing all plastics....
I found a pretty cheap front and rear but its from a 250x. You think it will fit and do i need to buy the mounting hardware also?
Does the year matter when buying the plastics from one to another?

thanks

The only thing I would ? is if the rear fender mold is a bit different where battery would go on the 93, I would think otherwise it would be a bolt on situation needing no hardware.

i would print pics of one model on here then compare pics to other model unless you got a photographic memory :D

My question is this, I bought used plastic for my sons 300ex, that was sight unseen, from a freind of his that races. The replacmnet plastic is a one piece front end, and the rear has all the holes in the right places, but where his had studs for nuts to mount the seat and seat latch, the new plastic has inserts in the seat for bolts to go thru the latch and into the seat. Is this just a year difference or did I end up with the wrong plastic?

I really dont see a way of mounting the front without removing the handle bars. Any ideas????

Thanks,
Tom

I realize this is a very old post, but it sounds like Tom got the old style 300ex plastics (06' and earlier) that you have to bolt the seat to and the entire plastics and seat come off at 1x instead of just the seat on the 07 + plastics.

For anyone else reading this, if you want to put 07 + plastics on a 06 and earlier 300ex, you MUST purchase the seat, mounting hardware and headlight for sure. I still am kind of up in the air if you can use the same gas tank without modifications.
