Got a new to me 2003 300ex the other day and after the first ride i noticed the drain plug is leaking. I tried to tighten it but it is pretty much stripped out. Has anyone had thjis problem and how did you fix it? I don't want to re-tap the hole because that will get shavings in the bottom end. Any suggestions?

I have heard of people using grease on the tap to catch the pcs.
I would just re tap it and flush the motor out a few times with some cheap oil before it was run. I dont think you have a lot of options. Others will chime in soon.

Thats going to be you best bet as described above. I did mine last year I used a 1/2" pipe tap and did it while my quad was sitting on its wheels to keep debris in the bottom. after I tapped it out I left the plug out and poured hydraulic oil into the case about 3 quarts to wash it out, hyd oil is thin enough to run right through and thick enough to grab the debris

All but one of my bikes are stripped out I put one of those rubber plugs from autozone that tightens with a butterfly nut and have not had any problems, just keep an eye on it.

I actually worked on it today and cleaned all the threads. It tightened up a lot more than it was but still drips about a drop an hour. I may go ahead and fix it right but it is not bad now. Thanks alot for all the input guys!
