I have a mid 90's model Honda TRX300EX that needs an engine, I can get a engine from a 1998 Honda Fourtrax 300 4X4. I noticed the 4x4 engine looks alot like the EX engine except it is a shaft driven engine front and rear. It looks like the shaft cover will unbolt and you could change it over to fit the 4x2. Will this work? Thanks in advance for your help. Chad

you can do the front for sure but i think you gotta split the cases, the 300ex gears are lower than the 300 though

u would be better off going out and looking for a 250x motor the older ones they are exactly the same motor but kick start and top and bottom r dif but better of going with 250x motor and doing mods

Agree ^^^^^^ the 250x was the platform for the 300ex the 300ex was upgraded with electric start and the stroke was increased other than that they are the same.
250X STOCK SPECIFICATIONS: 74mm BORE X 57.3mm STROKE

300EX STOCK SPECIFICATIONS: 74mm BORE X 65.5mm STROKE
