i have a 300ex (not sure on year there 2 years put together) that makes a noise

the noise is a loud ticking sound that seems to be coming from the top end, my dad says the top end isnt getting oil..so does that mean top end rebuild? i have no idea what to look for, its my first engine rebuild haha

Loosen the top bolt that holds the external oil line on and crank the engine over and you can tell if it's pumping oil to the top of the engine. Turn the kill switch off, so it won't start when you're cranking the engine. On some ATVs, the engine won't crank over with the kill switch off. If yours is like this, you will have to unplug the sparkplug wire from the sparkplug and ground the end of the wire to the engine. When you crank the engine over, oil should come out around the bolt if it's pumping. Don't forget to tighten the oil line when you're done.

Have you tried adjusting the valves?
