Hey folks,

It looks like I have a leak and appears to be coming from the oil seal where the front chain sprocket is. (this is after I cleaned it up really good). Can you replace this seal from the outside without disassembling the engine? its a 1996 Honda TRX300ex. Thanks

Yes it can be changed from the outside. You just have to pry the old one out with a flat tip screw driver or use a small hooked pick. Then use a socket to tap the new one in.

Another method I have used to remove flush/recessed seals is to carefully screw a drywall screw through the outside of the seal (don't screw too deep and get into whatever is behind the seal), then take pliers and grab onto the head of the screw and pull the seal out. I usually put 2 screws through the seal, 180* opposite of each other then I can work the seal back and forth and pop it out, or just pull on both screws at the same time.
