hey guys, my dad just bought a 98 fourtrax 300 4x4 that is in mint condition but it has a whining noise when you get in the higher gears. it only does it in worse in 5th gear and a little bit in 4th when you let off the gas. it doesn't have any vibrations or anything but i have heard that these bikes have had problems with ring and pinion gears and cv joints but this one only has about 260 hours on it. any suggestions?

Have you checked to see if both diffs and the transfer case are at the full level on gear oil?

yes i have and they are full

what size tires are on it ?..front ?..back ?..the back tires have to be 1 inch bigger than the front tires..this i know for sure ! most 4x4's you ride...will give you that whirlling sound..i haven't road many that never didn't make that sound...as long as your not hearing thunking..grinding.clanking..or poping noises..don't sweat it.

Yes, it has them and they're a PITA to get out.

i checked my tires they are 24 on the rear and 23 on the front. im not hearing any poping or grinding noises just a high pitched whine. id say that its normal but ive never had a 4x4, and not knowing the bikes history too well (what size tires its had or if its been buried to its nuts in mud etc.) i figured id better ask. thanks for the input guys!
