I have not been able to start my 300ex that I just got off a guy. I was able to getting it running once, then never again. After a week of trying to make it run I got a compression tester and it is saying about 30 psi. Is this definitely the rings just worn out or can it be something elses? I can't even make it pop when I spray stater fluid in it.

Was it smoking when you had it running?

Squirt some engine oil in the spark plug hole and do a compression test again, if there is little to no change then it may be something with the valves, if compression comes up then it's likely the rings or just worn/scored cylinder.

Just like what @UnkleRaRa said.... Was it smoking?? That could have been an indication your rings were worn badly... also what @mac102004 said, your valves may be bad if you can't get any compression.. Do another test and get back to us

If you find out that your piston and cylinder are worn, I have a whole top end for a 2000 300ex that I would be glad to sell you
