Hi all I'm new here I just got a 2004 250ex and just got it all up and running good after someone butchered the wiring harness I thought that was bad now reverse neutral and all 4 gears work and shift great until I get into fifth makes a grinding noise acts like it wants to go then grinds I don't think the gear is stripped no sign of metal in the oil has anyone ever ran into this problem before could it be so.ething simple under the clutch cover any help on this is greatly appreciated

Hi Kyle and welcome to the forum. I am sure someone here can answer your question as this site is a gold mine of information. I would do the simple things first like check oil level, oil pressure and make sure your battery is completely charged. Also, are you sure you have wet clutch ATV oil in your machine and not just automotive oil?

Hi thanks for the reply yea it's atv oil brand new battery it's pumping oil

I don't know much about sport models so I can't help you much more than link the service manual for you. Please don't start any more threads concerning this issue. One is plenty, two just wastes space and our time. Thanks.

Kyle, I'm sorry to say this but fifth gear is probably bad, along with it's mate on the other shaft. I guess there is a small chance that the shift drum or shifter mechanism has a problem.

Damn no signs of metal in the oil or anything but yea with my luck it probably is stripped
