New guy here, finally joined after scavenging the forum for years with my ranchers. Any way I started having some issues with the carb on my 2001 recon, cleaned it well and all is fine just still cold natured. After looking at the diagrams the 250ex carb doesnt appear to have the vacuum lines like the recon. Why is this? They are really the same machine, carbs are both 22mm I believe. Has anybody swapped to the 250ex carb? Thanks for any help.

The Recon carb has an air cut-off valve on it whereas the 250EX does not. You will be better off fixing the original Recon carb since it is intended to match the needs of the motor. The 250EX is a higher output motor that makes its power much differently. You could probably swap carbs but then you'd be trying to make something work where it wasn't intended.... that gets quite expensive and time-consuming... compared to just fixing it right.

Are you using the choke for cold startups? Does it work... the motor start right up? Make sure the pilot screw is backed out 2 5/8 turns initially. The slow jet should be a #38, main jet a #95 and the clip on the jet needle installed on the 2nd groove down from the top. Idle speed should be set at 1400 RPMs.

Welcome to the forums!
