I just got a 16’ rancher that supposedly needs a new top end. They told me they sunk it in a mud hole and it took on water. I checked the oil and it’s milky. They said it was knocking and smoking when they turned it off. I’ve looked around online for a complete rebuild kit but keep turning up empty handed. Could anyone make any suggestions on whether I should just do the top end or the whole engine? Also, where could I purchase these parts? I have never done this so any advice on manuals would be appreciated also. Thanks

the whole engine without a doubt, there is NO way to clean the inside out without tearing it down
so you can half AZZ the repair by just flushing and rolling the dice doing JUST a top end or you can do it right, open it up inspect ALL things, replace any bad parts(water has been inside HOW LONG NOW?? Water makes rust you know??) so a lot more than just top end parts might be needed here
BUT if your plans will soon be riding in water like a boat, maybe just do a top end as your going to be sinking it again soon any how?

so comes down to your plans

and also, don;t forget that is this bike was sunk, I would be doing a full fluid change and inspection, axles tubes (if has em) diff's air box and all over, water sucks in dirt, dirt ends up ruining motors and moving parts(bearings includes)!
