Getting ready to go to Blue Royal in TN this weekend. all of sudden when I turn the key, the cooling fan comes on. Oil temp light is not. Just the fan.
I thought a Mouse had got in and chewed up something but could find no evidence of that. What would cause this?

Glenn, it seems that your Engine Coolant Temperature sensor went bad, but if so, I would think you would see a trouble code displayed. Anyway, you should be able to test the ECT sensor. See the service manual for details, but the testing procedure normally involves removing the sensor from the engine and reading electrical resistance between the two terminals on the sensor at room temperature (should be infinite ohms), and then place the sensor in boiling water and read the resistance again (should be zero ohms). If your sensor reads zero ohms at room temperature, it is bad and will need to be replaced.

A bad fan control unit and or oil temp sensor could cause this. Like you said the oil light didn’t come on. So I would clean off the contacts of the FCU and use a little dielectric grease on the connectors. See if that fixes it
