Welcome to the forum.

While a lot of the components from 07-15 are compatible, they aren't exactly the same engine as an entire unit.

Whether one would swap out for the other I don't know. If you had a good 07 motor and the sensor plugs etc were all the same it might work.

The problem is the newer EFI machines have so many sensors and electronic plugs on them that even if it bolts perfectly in place it might not run with the 2015 wiring and ecu.

Doesn't the 2015 have an O2 sensor? That's one thing I can think of off the top of my head that would be different wiring-wise.

OH ok thanks ya I didn't realize the 2015 had a 02 sensor would anyone know a place to get a engine for a 2015 rancher it does have power steering but foot shift. I look on eBay and they come up once in awhile however they pretty much always electric shift, does Honda sell new crate engines,
My bike is making a strange ticking sound coming from the valve cover area, I know it could be fixed but I'm not sure what it involves to do upper engine rebuild.

The odds are it just needs an adjustment as Jeep suggested or maybe some repair. I don't think an engine replacement is recommended. Many guys here can give you advice once you have started the diagnostic process. We recommend that you download a repair manual 1st and get familiar with your engine. Someone will probably give you a prompt to click on to get the manual. It may be a steep learning curve for you but we are here to help.

Top end rebuild is no sweat with the repair manual and a few hand tools. Man don't replace the engine just because it's ticking! Or if you do, let me know and I will take that old motor off your hands!!

An older motor will not work on a 2015. The wire plugs and electronics ecu fuel pump and such are all different and so is the flywheel. The 16 back cover will not fit an older engine case half even if you carry all that stuff over.

A new engine is a couple thousand dollars when you probably need a $600 repair at a shop... or the fellas here can help you.

Good to know on the wire plugs.

While the flywheel etc are definitely different (as you showed us in your other thread) if the connectors were the same I wondered if installing an entire engine might be doable.

Sounds like the original poster has minor problems though.

Ok thanks for your guys help I have a good engine off a 07 rancher so that's why I was wondering.
I think it probably just need adjusting or valves cleaned as I run aviation gasoline in it and I've heard the lead in it is not supposed to be good for these engines. But that's all I got so I use it.
Also where I'm at there are no shops so it would involve me pulling the engine and shipping it to a shop which is expensive about 1000 bucks. That's why if thought I could find a reasonable engine I could swap then repair my old one . I'll look into what I need to do valve adjustment and clean the valves and head

Thanks for everyone’s help on this. I did finally pull the motor and as it was beyond me I sent it to a repair shop. $2000 later and basically an entire engine rebuild I’m back in business.
Shop said the cam shaft failed and it took out a bunch of other stuff in the process. If I had known It would be that much I would have just trashed the atv haha.
