A former coworker of mine is selling his 2015 Foreman 500 4x4. It is foot shift with power steering. He said it doesn't have a lot of hours and hasn't been ridden in a while. He bought it new. He's honest so I know that's the truth. He said he is asking what his payoff is but he was going to look that up, so I don't have the number yet. Anyway, what would be a fair price for such a machine? Anything I should know about this particular year/model?

if not a lot of miles/hours on it ?, I would not pay more than 5k for it. look it up on KBB, see what the used trade in value is ?, then go from there. the biggest down fall the trx500's had back in the day was a defective 1st gear set, but they fixed this problem on the newer models. they also had a bad oil drain design back then, not sure what or how they are like on the newer models are ?. I dont buy/work on many new machines..old school here all the way...lol.

So would a 2015 be in the range of the defective 1st gear set and bad oil drain design?

If it's a 2015 and purchase new, the payoff can't be that much? I would snatch it up in a minute.

I’ve never heard of any “defective 1st gear set” on a 2015 manual shift.

Pretty sure the defective 1st gears were in the first years of the Foreman 500, so like 2005. And those were carb'd, air cooled motors. The 2015's are a long ways from that and no concerns.

yeah..newer models are fuel injection, pretty sure they solved the 1st gear set by 2015..lol. question is..did they design that stupid oil drain plug casing better in 2015 ?.

Yeah looks like a lot better design at the drain bolt threads and same cases as the 2nd gen 420:
