I bit the bullet and ordered new front and rear plastics. I'm working on the rear fender removal and I have everything disconnected except the stator connector and regulator/rectifier connector.

I cannot figure out how to get these two connections disconnected. I see a "tab" on only one side of each one and I have pushed on and pulled on the tab but doesn't seem to move. I do not see anything on the sides of the connectors that hold them in.

What is the secret to disconnecting these connectors?? Would it be better to leave them connected and unbolt the metal thing they are connected to?? I can't find the name of that part in my manual. So sorry. LOL

Work Continues

I guess I should have started a thread under DIY/Projects when I first started working on this bike. I have several posts where I asked for help with different issues. I will continue this post to update my progress as I come down to the finish line on all the repairs.

Today, I plan to put last coat of paint on the racks. Will remount the right rear tire. The brakes are working well since I replaced all the brake parts except the brake back plate. I had to cut the dust cover to get it off so while ordering a new cover I also ordered a new brake drum. There can no longer be any parts of the brake that will cause a problem. LOL

I have removed the front and rear fenders. I spent yesterday cleaning all the wiring and applying a rust converter to places I missed the first go around.

Will apply NewColor to older plastics that I am not replacing. I can't wait to see the result of this popular product. @retro had amazing results on his bike. I hope for the same. :)

Will keep you posted with photos. Again, thanks to all who have helped me get to this point in my project!!

Got everything washed and cleaned up last night.

Applied the ReColor today. WOW. Fantastic product. The black plastics look new, except for the scratches. LOL. FYI, the ReColor does not fix scratches but does add an unbelievable durable shine. It dries in 1 hour but needs to cure for 24 hours so tomorrow afternoon I plan to put on the new front and rear plastics.

If my right rear tire does not bump I'll be finished with this project!

I am sure the mods will move your thread to the builds if you want ---

I see you got it now , some of them connectors can be hard to get apart , if the clips were all the same it would be easier , but they are all different , when they give me trouble , I will pick some of the dirt out ,then blow it out with air , then spray some lubricant in there , use a pick to work the tab instead of your finger nails

Great advice and very helpful, Fish! There are some that I absolutely cannot get apart so I'll do as you said before I put the new plastics on today. I didn't think about using my air compressor. That would have save the lives of lots of q-tips. LOL

Nevermind. I got it!!! Sorry for the bother. Can't wait to show you my new red plastics. My frog is gonna be a prince!! :)
Remember that it started out as a prince.....then turned into a frog. lol
Oh, you're right! I forgot that he did not come from the factory with zip ties holding the rear plastic together. The previous owner rode him hard and put him up wet. I rescued him just in the nick of time. There's a Pitbull rescue, Yorkie rescue and others. Is there a Rancher Rescue?? LOL

Today, I finished getting the rear plastic on. His warts are disappearing ;)
@ChrisS819 Looks great! Very nice spare! Thanks for sharing.
