Im looking to change the gear ratio to get a little more torque. I ride in the mountains. I believe the stock is 14/39. If i change it to a 14/38 that will give me more torque right? and should i take 2 links off the chain if i do? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Mike. For more torque you need to go LARGER on the rear sprocket. If only going one tooth larger you'll just need to adjust your axle forward a tad, if you have room. Or for more effect, go one smaller on the front, but some 400EX guys will be around shortly I'm sure and can give their more valued recommendation.

Wheelsquad is right. Go up on rear sprocket for more low end torque. You will sacrifice top end speed. One tooth on the front sprocket equals three on the rear. Stock is 15/39. Sprocket should have the number of teeth marked on it, but count them to be sure what you currently have. Good luck!!
