Left key on. Battery dead at 0330 AM. Hooked up jumper cables to battery. Hooked them up backwards. Blew fuse. Replaced fuse.
Since then
Starts up normally. Idle is fine. When you put it in gear it might go 5 feet or 50 feet then engine and heat light both come on and it dies. It might not do any of that at all and keep running. I did find what I thought was a starter switch that was not in its rubber boot in front of the battery. Put it back in its rubber holder and still same problem. Any ideas?

First off, don’t jump a dead battery. You want to charge a dead battery. The charging system goes into overdrive on start when the battery is dead. You may have fried some expensive parts jumping the battery backwards. Get the troubleshooting manual out and start following along

from what little I know about the trx420's ?, they had a ton of defective fuel pumps on them when they first came out. which would tell me, if your fuel pump quits, of course the engine light and temp light, and any other light on the meter/dash will always come on when the engine stops. sooooooooooo..start with checking the fuel pump is what I would be doing.
