I have a 2013 rancher efi, recently it sat up for a long time, I drained most of the fuel put fresh fuel and ran about 1/2 tank through it before it started dying while riding and would run fine until given a lot of throttle at once. One day it died on me a few times and I had to tow it back to my house, my immediate though was fuel pump, so I pulled the line off and was getting fuel, then changed the injector Thinking maybe that was the issue, still not it. So I went back to the fuel pump and replaced it, still not the issue, it has spark and fuel but will not run, the bike only has 27 hours and is like brand new, all it does is spin over, no FI lights or any other lights flashing PLEASE HELP

Was the filter changed along with the fuel pump? Are all of those parts that you put on it genuine OEM Honda parts? If the answer is no to any of the above, correct those before continuing, else you're wasting your time.

Next up, check the fuel pump relay. The service manual shows ya how (scroll down & click the link):
https://www.hondaatvforums.net/foru...nual-help/50817-service-manual-downloads.html

Then remove the throttle body and clean it good, inside and out. Don't disturb stuff... just clean the carbon and junk out if any is found. Clean your air filter too. If you aren't experienced in this area, I advise that you pay someone else to do this work.

The fuel pressure must be checked at that point. More'n likely, only a few Honda shops will be able to check pressure for ya. It requires some special fittings for the gauge. Read the manual... you may have to re-initialize the TPS once its been disturbed as well.

Rancher fuel pumps (the entire fuel system is a joke) are wimpy, chintzy turds... don't ever let them sit with fuel in them more than 30 days old. And don't ever put any ethanol laced gas in it for any reason.

I have a question about the 2013 420 Rancher,if not using the machine for a period of time, should you let the fuel pump run out of gas,and leave it empty,I heard you could hurt the pump doing that, what’s the best thing to do? I run non ethanol fuel in it.

to get the most views and reply's, you should dtart your own tread asking this stuff!

BUT for now I will take a stab at things
first off HOW long will atv sit
weeks, months, yrs?
as it maters!
so need to tell us more on this side of things to get better answers!

if weeks, I would run tank LOW< and then re fill with non ethanol fuel

if months, I would again run current tank almost to empty, closer the better!

and then re fill tank with NON ethanol fuel and TREAT the fuel with a stabilizer, so it doesn't go bad!

NEXT, if your a yr or longer, I would do the treated non ethanol fuel deal
only before running atv again I would drain the tank, and re do with new non ethanol fuel, and a new oil and filter change
along with a few other things I would do for longer term storage, so things don't go bad sitting still

again a post about HOW to store atv for longer sits, would be your best bet to get more eye's and opinions on how to do so best! !

I was just continuing a thread about what someone said about the 420s having weak fuel systems,so I didn’t think I needed a new thread. All I asked if you should run the electric fuel pump empty or not when the machine sits for long periods.Sometimes my 420 will sit for two months at a time .Other times a couple weeks.

yes exactly, but your main question seems to be about asking HOW TO< store your atv for sitting periods of time<
the OP of THIS Tread was asking for help due to his atv not running
your question belongs in its own tread, as your getting off topic of the OP here!

and I also answered your questions here too
but in the future, its best to start a tread when your asking about YOUR question and not answering to the op's tread question!

to the OP< sorry for getting off your topic

YOU might still have bad fuel in your tank, since you never drained it all out, if the old fuel had water in it, or too much of an additive, or just OLD fuel
draining half or so and adding new, can just make for a full tank of weak bad fuel

so, to rule out the fuel, you need to drain the whole tank, or as close to empty as you can, and then try things

modern fuel is poor quality,at best when new,
so any that sits can go bad a LOT faster than many think, and adding too much of stabilizer or treatment, can make it even worse, or ruin it all together!

so, need to start with all new fuel, and then trouble shoot after that if it doesn;t solve the issue for you!
