I have a 2012 honda rancher and after I run it for a few minutes the red temp light comes on and slows the machine down or cut the motor off completely. It starts right back up after it shuts off without the light on. Any suggestions on what might be the cause? Thanks!

Idk much about newer models but this is typical of low oil pressure, failing temp sensor or failing fan control unit.

try to get a service manual—maybe from my signature block below or use parts links to view exploded parts diagrams to locate these parts.

how long has it been since you changed the oil? Do you change it once a year? Pull the oil temp sensor out before you drain oil to try and clear any sludge in the case in vicinity of the sensor. Wipe it down and inspect the connectors. Change filter when you change the oil too.

The fan should come on way before the light comes on. I have worked my bike hard in the middle of the summer when it was over 100* in the shade and have never had my light come on ever.

I would make sure you have the correct amount of coolant and that your fan still works.

Coolant what's flushed and changed a couple weeks ago and is good, I'm pretty sure the filter is in right, but I will check. The light will come on and it will wither either slow down the motor or kill it. Then it will start back up fine and run a few minutes and so the same thing.
