from what i've heard..and read on here..the irs is pretty nice..but..the esp sucks..too many problems with the angle sensors..and the problem i've heard on here about the AT..they don't last long..when they go out..you pretty much have to replace the whole tranny..this is what i've heard and read on here..to each thier own i guess..if i was buying a new one..i'd go with the manaul shift all the way..alottttt cheaper to work on..stick with the irs though..they say they are a smooth ride.

You could always get the Rincon. Better in every way compared to the Rancher 420 AT, from what I can tell anyway. You might be able to find a leftover '08 or '09 for a little cheaper.

This AT has not be around long enough to show its problems yet I have an 09 AT , as of yet no problems. Can't speak for EPS and don't have a need for it. IRS is the only way to go! Dubsd is right I find myself in ES when it come to hills and the slick stuff. but everywhere else auto all the way. As far as the 420/680 debate, Well Bro-n-law has a 680 and its nice ,but to me the three speed leaves something to be desired. The 420 is way more fun to ride. It has somewhat of a sportier feel. It will not beat it in a race, but keeps up just fine. And both are running 27" tires. As far as price I paid 5200 in 09 for my AT.

I agree.. I have IRS and EPS and love them.. When you get in mudd or the steep stuff I too put it to manual shift, but usualy just ride around in auto.. It's kinda fun to shift yourself sometimes too.. Very sporty and snappy. My wife has a suzuki 500 and it will out run my rancher, but not out perform or excelerate as fast (and I'm running 14" wheels, with 27" tires with no mods) THe IRS is real nice, especialy when riding over rocks, ruts, and side hills.. Plus the rancher doesn't come with alot of ground clearance with stock tires, and the IRS will give you more than a solid rear axle machine..

I ride with a buddy who has an 800 polaris his top speed is 100 km/h and I can hit 84 km/h, I am 210 lbs and he is 140 lbs. So I can't beat him in a race but he can"t keep up with me in trees and I have pulled him out more times than I can remember. The IRS is for me the only way to go, very comfortable ride.

Agreed^^. I own a '07 Rincon and my dad has an '09 Rancher AT, that we bought within a few days of each other. The Rancher just feels heavier compared to my Rincon. In my, and my fathers opinion the Rincon is a better ATV. But, this is a Rancher thread, and the Rancher AT is a sweet machine. When in auto, it shift very smooth. When you are in ESP, it sounds kind of loud when you use the buttons. Brakes are awesome. The rear brake is disk (on the rear drive shaft like the Rincon) unlike the axled Ranchers drum brake. The IRS is also a mini-version of the Rincon, but a little too stiff in my opinion. The engine, seems a tad under powered to me, especially being a 420. When I compare it to my uncles 350 Rancher it just seems like there should be more power. In most cases though, the Rancher handles great and powers through just fine with no problems. I like the plastic too, one piece fenders. I wish my Rincons plastic was like that, I'm not a big fan of the flimsy fender flares it comes with. The Ranchers seat needs to be a little softer too.

Hey! No fair, you got aerial pics too.LOL They both lookin good JB, Yeah I would have to agree I don't like the two piece fenders on the Rincon ether. As far as the seat I believe Honda made the seat softer for the 10 model. But I like my seat I have lots of extra pading anyway.LOL For the ride well the Rincon feels more like a utility and the Rancher feels more like a sport quad. They are close to the same size but the Rincon just seems to feel bigger and bulkier. That is the best I can describe it.

Damn that was a great buy in 09. Unless you bought it used I suppose, but still a good buy at that. Just this month I shelled out $5150 for an 09 AT with no EPS and 370 miles and 7 months warranty remaining.

There just was none to be had used. I had only four bikes to choose from in a 700 mile radius search and only one of those was red. Which I bought. :D
