My 2009 Rancher's transmission apparently went out the other day. I noticed about two weeks ago it started sounding funny when I would shift, like a marble being dropped into a metal bucket. It's never sounded like that before. I was shifting from 3rd to 4th when it got stuck between gears, yet the display still showed "3". It was as if the transmission was in neutral. At one point the "-" was blinking a pattern, but the 3 came back and it's blinking two long followed by two short blinks. I have the shop manual, and I tried adjusting the clutch and I tried shifting the gears manually with the little wrench, but they wouldn't budge. At one point I tried operating it and it would barely move, but I stopped when the engine trouble indicator came on the display. It promptly went back off. I only tried to operate it because it's out on the back forty of our property and I was trying to move it to some cover.
I bought this Rancher new, and honestly the shift sensor has been a PITA since day one, i.e. hard to shift a lot of times. I took it back to the dealer back then and they said it was fine, of course.
What am I looking at possibly? I fear the transmission is toast.
