Looking at a used Foreman 500 from a local dealer. Was curious if anyone could tell me things to look out for or to check on a used unit like this to make sure i am not buying something someone had road hard and put away wet with little to no maint. Any info is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

First of all, if it's snorkeled, walk away unless you're getting it dirt cheap and are planning on doing a nut and bolt rebuild.

If it's not snorkeled and seems to run well, check inside the air box and see if you find signs of mud and water. If you do, red flag.

Jack front wheels up and grab tire at 6 and 12 oclock and wiggle, see if there is play. If so, it will need bearings and possibly ball joints.

Do the same thing with the left rear wheel. The left rear bearing usually wears out long before the right rear bearing.

Any smoke, knocks, ticks, or funny noises?

If it's a dealership they will likely clean up any telltale signs of abuse.

First gear in the 05-08 Foremans was weakish design. If it has been abused or had big tires on it first gear will likely make popping noises and/or slip.
