Going into reverse and from neutral to first gear is no problem but going through the rest of the gears, it's really tough to get it to shift with my foot, so much that I have to actually reach down with my hand and pull up the shift lever to get it to shift. Any ideas why and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Has it been sunk/submerged? Is the motor oil a JASO MA/MA2 rated oil? Has it been apart previously? Is the change clutch adjusted per the FSM? And is the clutch working right?

I bought the bike from a little old lady who used it to get around her property so I doubt it was submerged. I don't know what type of oil she was using but I had all the fluids and oils changed to Honda recommended oils/ fluids when I bought it. I don't think that it has been torn down ever. I don't believe that she got beyond first gear very often so I'm thinking that maybe the clutch needs to be adjusted?? The bike goes into every gear, but it's just really tight going into all gears except for reverse and first gear.

Well, seems that culprit was the type of oil used. I dropped the Shell Rotella that the guy I bought the bike from used and put in the GN4 recommended by Honda and after a few spins around the block, she's was shifting smooth like butta! Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Greatly appreciated
