Shifting problems. Code flashing is 5 which is ECU. So far, have replaced the ECU 2 times, angle sensor 3 times, checked continuity, cleaned all connections, removed shift motor and check continuity, replaced shifter controls. Maintenance is up to date and batter is good. It stops flashing the code for about 5 minutes and then immediately starts again. Basically wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if they were actually ever able to get it fixed and how.

When replacing the ECU did you use actual Honda original equipment ECU's? I hear on here that only the original ones work well.

I have a 2005 Recon ES and last year had code 8, turned out to be one of the reduction gears was broken wouldn't even shift manually. Replace with all Honda parts including the gears, angle sensor, shift motor and handle bars shift controls and all works well, no problems.

Code 5 is not a defective ECU, it indicates a fault in the ECU control motor driver circuit:

I would start over diagnosing it after putting everything back the way it was from the factory with the OEM ECU and any other parts you've replaced back on the machine.

Then go through the troubleshooting steps in the factory service manual (in order) with a multimeter until you find the fault.

Yes parts were Honda original parts, purchased from our local dealer. I've checked all the connections to the ECU, actually several times. That's where I started before replacing the entire unit. Will check again. Thanks everyone!
