2007 honda foreman 500 shift shaft

Hey guys, new to this site. I broke my foot shift on my 2007 honda 500. I took the bolt out and tried to pull the remaining piece off and the shift shaft pulled out. The foot rest stops it from coming all the way out and it will still shift the gears when pushed in. I didn't have time to really look at it, but i plan on it within the next couple of days. Is there a bolt that holds it in or a keeper ring? Will it pop back in or will i have to take the whole thing apart.
