My seals were the start. I believe the seals failed, water and mud tore up the bearings. Once the bearings were gone movement caused the ring and pinion to lose alignment. To answer your question.... What didn't tear up? Not much!

the reason i asked bro..if your pinion gear..and ring gear are ok ( didn't get messed up bad )..then just replace the bearings and seals..a hellllllllll of lot cheaper than replacing the whole rear end..but..thats your choice..if it were me..and my ring gear..and pinion gear were ok..i would just rebuild it.

Yea, problem is the spline on the pinion is what actually took the bike out of commission. The ring is ok I guess.. It would work no prob but due to the pinion gear spline on the drive shaft failing that wasn't an option... It was like $340 for the whole deal all assembled. What I did do for kicks was weld a 3/4 inch drive extension to te driveshaft and pinion. This worked without incident but the small bearing to hold the pinion centered in the housing was also destroyed. Now the pinion is pushing awAy from the ring causing a clunk and slip.... So thats where it's been sitting. I tried to get a bearing locally to hold that pinion in place but couldn't find one.. (got tired) I may give it another shot a ******* repair since Im looking at Jan for the real stuff..?

okkkkkk..so you got a bad pinion gear..bad bearings..and bad seals...now..try looking on ebay...or even go to bikebandit.com..see if you can purchase a rear differental set of gears..( yes..you have to purchase them in sets )..get a bearing rebuild kit and it should come with everything you need as far as bearings and seals to rebuild your rear differental. you can get the rebuild kits just about anywhere..as for the ring gear and pinion gear..you may or may not have a hard time locating these..all depends on where you look i guess..try looking where i said.
