Hi All,

Does the front differential on a 06 Rancher 350 need to be disassembled to change the pinion seal?

The last time I had a seal leaking on my front diff I took it out and did a complete rebuild of all bearings and seals, my thinking is if one went the others are soon to follow, it will end up being cheaper in the long run instead of doing it two or three times

I was thinking of the same thing. But do I have to split the differential housing to replace the seals, specifically the pinion seal?

If your pinion seal is leaking your outer bearing might be bad as is, so you would have to split the case to get it out. But the seal will come out without splitting the case.

You can replace all of the seals in the front diff after you take it (along with the front driveshaft) out of the frame. Section 16 of the FSM covers all that... and it's easy work. No splitting of the case is required to replace the pinion bearing and/or the pinion seal.

I've got a complete from diff from an 05 350 Rancher with 2k miles on it. Everything looks to be in good shape.
