I bought a 2006 Honda Rancher 350 with 1800 miles on it. When I got the atv it was very hard to start. I replaced the choke cable which was damaged. Then I drained the tank and added fresh fuel. I replaced the fuel line. I took off the carb cleaned it and put a rebuilt kit into it. I replaced the choke valve assembly. After all of this, the atv still will no start without the use of the primer bulb. It seems like it will not run with the choke on, it will kill it almost as soon at it is pulled. What could be causing my starting problems? I need some suggestions on what I need to do next.

I also have a 2001 Honda Rancher 350 with 11,500 miles on it and it will start with the choke after a couple turns no matter how long it sits. I have never had to use the primer bulb with it. I have attached links to each one starting that I uploaded on youtube.

I would think your carb is still dirty unless it is brand new clean inside. The guys at the shop use an ultrasonic cleaner to get those jet cavities.

Does it run OK after warmup?

I have an 05 & 06 work machines same problems until I had the techs hit it with the ultrasonic. I might have had a go at it with some Berryman Chemtool and pipe cleaners if it was my machine

Might help to run the diagnostic section in the manual– link to it in my sig block

Like you mentioned I have never used the primer bulb — ever

When I cleaned the carb I took all the plastic pieces off and the old parts I was going to replace out and let it soak in simple green cleaner over night. The next day I sprayed the carb and all the orifices out with carb cleaner and compressed air. Then I put in the carb kit replacing the float valve needle, main jet, idle jet, pilot jet (idle mixture screw), and start jet. Then I replaced the oring and put everything back together. I also replaced the choke valve assembly.

How much does it cost to have the carb ultrasonically cleaned? Would I be better off just buying a new carb from Honda to throw in?

What does the air filter look like, try pulling the filter back with your hand and see if it turns over. Sounds like your carb should be good, yes there is always a possibility it's not clean enough. But I understand the pain so let's see if there's another thing we can check out. So how does that air box and filter look?

I cleaned the air filter and I reoilded it just how I have been on my 2001. I also have replaced the spark plug on it. So more than likely it is still my my carb causing problems then?
Yeah more than likely. Take the carb off, take it completely apart (besides butterfly choke) and soak it all (except for rubber pieces) in some Pine Sol for like 24 hrs. 8 would work too but 24 is excellent. Any parts that won't come clean, I recommend going on partzilla and replacing the part.

Finally got chance to watch video. I'm almost certain now it's your carb. Give it a good cleaning now, be sure to us wire, cotton swabs, carb cleaner for after soaking just using in little spots you wanna be sure are extra clean, and compressed air to blow it all out. That last thing is very important be sure you don't rush that process. If you don't have an air compressor then grab some quarters and head to nearest gas station, you can't avoid this step. I'm speaking from experience on that and I can't tell you how many weird looks I've gotten from people driving by seeing some kid spraying a carburetor with air at a gas station lol. But when it comes to getting few ugly look and getting clean carb or have to buy whole new carb. I'll take the looks anyday. Hahaha
