Got my new toy home after an adventure driving 2 1/2 miles of gravel, now mud and using my trucks 4WD full time for the first time ever. The rest of the 40-50 mile drive was pavement. It starts, runs, shifts even into reverse. Nothing broken just a little scuffing on the plastics. What bothers me is the luggage racks front and rear, need taken off cleaned up and either painted or powder coating. Yes they actually used it as a ATV on the farm, fixing fence rounding up the cattle and horses. But other than the racks its really pretty nice.

Ok do people powder coat the racks, paint or just buy new?? I figure If I prep the racks the powder coating would $100 or so.

That’s a good looking quad. If you can buy new, you nay find the cost will rival the cost to media blast and powdercoat.

I sanded my rusty spots and primered with Rustoleum rust restorer and then base coat with Rustoleum Satin Black. You will have to let it cure for several days before it’s hard enough to resist scratching.

I use mine around the farm here and are marked up pretty good, I'm going to sandblast them and use a 2 part ppg epoxy primer and then a 2 part epoxy dtm paint.

Cost will be about $150 Canadian

I wonder if that POR15 (is that what its called?) paint would stand up better?

I am also going to have to learn about jack points because I want to check all the wheels. I am almost 100% sure I need new rear brake pads.

I ordered some POR15 in Semi gloss black along with the metal prep stuff.

Yes I jacked it up yesterday after I found out that all 4 wheels need to be off the ground for one tire to rotate. So a lift would be nice, but for one machine? Plus if you had seen my shop, 24x24 stuffed full of well, machines and stuff.... I have no more room for a ATV lift. As it is now my ride will need to be outside in a covered, not used dog run. Winter comes, it will be inside while the zero turn mower is out in the dog run.

my shop is 12x16, and most of that is benches...lol. which does not leave me much room to work in the middle ?. regardless if you own one atv ?, or ten ?, either way..a atv lift is a must have tool to have !!!.

POR15 is good stuff. It's pricey, and you have to follow the directions EXACTLY to get good results, but it's tough stuff.

Make sure to read the instructions, as when I've used it in the past it required a top coat as the POR15 wasn't UV protected, so sun exposure would break it down if you didn't top-coat it.

Yes, I forgot about that and I have used it before. I think after I get the rear brake done I will pull off the racks and have them sandblasted and powder coated. I will save the POR 15 for the frame and brake backing plate and etc.

I did get my racks sandblasted and painted. I ended up with a hood from TSC far better than the one with the HF pot. Remember to always wear a dust mask under the hood as sand dust stays in you lungs Forever. I did also add a final oil and water filter to the incoming air connection. Its all brass rated to 150 psi and has a drain plunger. I only sandblasted my racks outside and away from all my other shop equipmenthttps:
