Hi guys. I bought this thing and it was smoking. I put a new carb on it and it was running great. I rebuilt the top end and it fired right up. No more smoking. Problem is, when I punch it, it bogs down and takes a second or two and then revs up. Seems to run smoother with the home on. I haven’t ran it too long to see if it’ll get better or not. Neighbors hate it haha. I did just pull the carb, check it clean, and I even lowered the clip one notch to get more fuel. No change. Maybe go the other way with it and see if it’s getting too much fuel and not enough air? It’s snorkeled but the air box isn’t sealed too well. I can cover a portion of the snorkel and it dies quickly. Figured if it was getting too much air, it would help it and show me the issue. Too rich, or too lean. Anyone have a suggestion? Maybe the needle isn’t sliding up like it should? It moves freely by hand and Lowers as it should. Help please

Sounds like lack of air to me not lack of fuel.

I've been through a tough time in the past snorkelling my 300.

My first question is.. Was the replacement carb a genuine Keihin or an eBay or Amazon cheapie? If the latter, take it out and replace with a genuine Keihin rebuilt with a known good brand rebuild kit.

When you can confirm the above you need to get it running nicely with no snorkel. Don't go by sound, go by spark plug color. Next step, add the snorkel and change the snorkel system as much as you can before altering the carb and jets etc.

I'll continue to blabber on!!

Where on the throttle does the bog occur? Idle to 1/4, 1/4 to 1/2, 1/2 to 3/4 or full? If you can upload a video it would help us all to help you.

Last but not least, whatever you do DONT alter more than one thing at a time.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I didn’t respond quicker. I moved the needle around and the clip on its lowest setting, higher needle, gave me the best response. I ended up putting a piece half way covering the snorkel and ran it today. It ran great!!! There are a couple things I need to silicone to seal the air box still. The tape was the quick fix. I’m just confused why it ran great before with none of this, until I put the new piston in and valves. Didn’t think that would change how my carb needed adjusted. Either way, it’s running good. I’ll seal the airbox around the lid, snorkel pipe entrance, and the 3/4” hole in the bottom to drain. That may let me remove the tape.
