I've got a 2005 honda recon 250 it used to stay out at the list and get used once or twice a year. Brought it out to do some work on it due to it not wanting to start. It used to start after a while of cranking with the choke on full but if you let off the gas it would die and wouldnt restart. I purchased a new honda carb to replace the old one, after I put it on it seemed to run fine I left it sitting for a week came back and now it's doing the same thing again. Only run on choke and wont run long and when it dies it refuses to restart. It also seems to be some kind of liquid coming out of the exhaust pipe while it runs, too thin to be oil and doesnt smell like gas. Any help would be appreciated I want to get this thing working again soon.

Well; if your new honda carb, was made in china, and not OEM..that could be 1 problem..
then, if you have been using ethanol gas, that could be the 2nd problem..
what color is the liquid, coming out the exhaust? is it thin like water? is it tacky?
does atv smoke?

No smoke. Not tacky at all. The liquid as about as thick as water and brown like mud almost. It's an OEM carb still in the honda packaging. I have been using regular pump gas though. The original carb has been rebuilt about 5 times thought its life so we figured it's time for a whole new carb this time around.

Well,, ya got me stumped, {which dont take much, sometimes], for the moment.. regular pump gas, though, in the states, means ethanol gas, for the most part. that says problems. though it is 2005, you might want to check the gas flow from the tank,.. mine though older, had a fuel filter in the tank, that had disintragrated, plus a fuel line switch, next to the tank, run, off reserve, that was shot, as well.. OEM, if made in china, dont count..
for i say to much more, its best that someone that knows a lot more than i do, talk to you.. and there are a few here..

Changed out all the fuel filter already. Took the tank off and cleaned out it seemed to be flowing fine. it's been in the shop once or twice for roughly the same issue but not nearly this bad. it would work fine for a few months and then this.
