Welcome to the forums. You need to read the trouble codes out. This link will explain it.

so i checked out the codes and i got a 6 code. I took off the the angle sensor and cleaned it, made sure the connection was good and reinstalled it but that did not work. what should i look at next, or do i just need a new angle sensor?

Not sure what to suggest, but ranchers have angle sensor problems a lot.

I agree. I can't say for sure, but there's a good chance you just need a new angle sensor. A repair manual would tell you how to test the angle sensor.

I don't have a repair manual for the 400 Rancher, but I can post the instructions for checking the 350 Rancher angle sensor. I don't know if it would be the same or not, but here it is anyway.

white flag!

well i gave up on it and i am taking it to my local dealer. i figure ill spend a little money to have it run again rather than spend a bunch of time and frustration only to watch the sunny days go by without me riding my wheeler.

Whoohoo!

I asked the dealer if i could bring my rancher in and asked the price of them fixing it for me,they wouldn't give meastraight answer,so i ordered an angle sensor and installed it myself.now i can go ride :icon_ rocker:the part cost $86 and the repair manual cost $7.

2004 rancher flashing ESP

I have a 2004 AT and it is doing the same thing. Not driving in reverse and only goes forward. It seems it is stuck in 1st gear. Will not shift in Auto or ESP.
Did changing the Angle sensor fix your problem?

I'm having the same problem, I cleaned the shift angle sensor, didn't work. We got a new sensor, still didn't work and I'm starting to think its the hondamatic but i'm not a mechanic so don't take my word for it.
