Maybe ya got an exhaust leak somewhere. Or a leaky intake manifold. Do you still have the OEM carb and air filter, or china knockoffs? Also adjust the valves while you're poking around the carb, intake and exhaust system, make sure those are lashed right.

backfire is a lean condition. When you cleaned the carb how did you do it? Complete disassembly?

The jets may be clogged — i use pipe cleaners

The pilot screw may be assembled incorrectly or not set proper amount of turns. Mine had the tip of the old one broken off in the bore

The air cut valve may be involved
