( took them on my stupid phone ..lol ). sooooooo..let the drooling begin !. p.s. this thread will NOT update like my normal post for builds !!!, this is a very slow project. update: well, a small update..lol. I was right, it is a 2003 trx450fm ( or to be correct, 2003 trx450S ), but I call them trx450fm. anywayyyyyyy, ripped her apart lastnight, all fenders are off, rolled it out of my shop today, washed 100 pounds of mud off her. today I was able to tear the rear differential off, and apart. the rear differential is toast for the most part !. someone decided it was a good idea to weld the axle to the ring gear !?!. THIS IS A BIG NO NO !!!. DO....NOT...WELD...THE..AXLE...TOO...THE...RING...GEAR !!!!!!!. the differential will be rebuilt with all new bearings, oil seals, axle, ring gear, pinion gear. will also rebuild the brake panel side while I have it torn down. total part list so far is 500 bucks, and I am sure this will double or triple before its all said and done on this project. but for right now, its gonna take 500 bucks to rebuild the rear differential and brake panel.

That’s a lot of dollar on a rear end, surely a good used item from the likes of PSN would be kinder on the wallet? Or is this a nut and bolt build?

Haha.. I’m in no rush either, like you say you can only go as fast as funds allow can’t you. I’d like to see the summer out on my 450 before tearing it down for the frame swap anyway. Will be an interesting build, my new frame is 98 and my bike is 04, nobody really knows for certain if there are differences. Time will tell lol

pretty sure this one wont be finished before spring time ?. I will have a good winter project..thats for sure !..lol. you might have problems on that '98 frame ?, the front differential is totally different !. only thing that comes to mind is the mounting bolt hole area ?, as the later years ( 2003 and up ), use a different front differential, because they are operated by an electromagnet to switch in and out of 2wd to 4wd. where is the 1998 was constant 4wd.

Yes your right, jeep told me that, I’ve looked though and it seems that all I need to do is notch out one of the square box section cross bearers. Both bikes are still built up so it was just a ‘quick look’. I’ll be able to pull it off, I don’t see any major issues just yet.

I think I have one of those you can have. Want to measure it for me to make sure? I finally sorted through some of my crap yesterday and got a 450 swingarm and tubes to do a stretch on a 500 a while back. I think I came across the axle tubes yesterday and I don't need the left rear, only the right.

I also have some ES floorboard supports (not the actual floorboards, just the metal supports) if the guy wants to do the full plastic floorboards. They'll work with a footshift bike. Luckily the 450 flares are only about $15 each new, although either ES floorboards or the S flaps and heelguards are $$$.

And remember 500 Foreman discs will bolt on at the balljoints!

HEY BRO, thanks for the offer !, but I bought one from psn off ebay, 24 bucks !..lol. dealer wants close to 200 !..lol. pretty sure I will keep it for manual foot shift foot rest, no need for the floor boards, only es models use those. i've got a ton of parts that need replacing..just glad I am not buying them !..lmfaooo. rear end is wrecked..but the swing arm bearings are good !..lmfao. funny how we find broken parts when we tear them down huh ?!. lol.

been tearing the motor apart, I could smell fuel in the lower part of the engine !. piston was scored, as well as the cylinder, more than likely, from gas washing the oil off the cylinder walls. cam chain is bad, cam is good, have not checked the valves yet ?. soooo, for now, the engine needs a cam chain, complete engine gasket kit, complete engine oil seal kit, top end rebuild, not sure what I will do about the cylinder part of the top end yet ?, my cylinder bore guy retired ( sigh )..lol. I will check out g&h, and see what kinda price they got ?. bare frame is out of my shop, needs a pressure washing, then some paint. there is a lot of bad parts on this build.
