Have y'all ever seen a frame rust out on a 2003 year bike like this. I've had several older bikes with no sign of this occuring. Going to run it till it either breaks in half or the motor blows up. Which ever comes first. ?. Just thought I would share.

That ain't fair, what does the rest of the bike look like? Is it a mud bike put away wet, rarely pressure washed clean? A farm/ranch bike slogging through manure every day? An oceanside bike?

It's a hunting bike. I hunt in the swamp on the MS river near Vicksburg, MS. It's spent a fair bit of it's life swimming and sloping through the mud. It looks pretty good as far as cosmetics. Always fixed stuff and didn't let it go. Washed it 2 or 3 times a year. There is no exterior rust on the frame just internal corrosion. For some reason, the water in the woods down there is pretty corrosive. Lot of tannins from oak trees. I guess the frame filled up with water quite a bit and rusted it from the inside out. The powder coat on it is in perfect shape right up to the rusted out spots. My brother has 3 Honda 300's and only one of them is like that. They are 10 to 12 years older than mine and I don't believe he's ever washed them. They aren't even kept in a shed all year long.

I've got salty red clay, pure ocean bottom sediment here so I know what you mean by corrosive mud. That bike might have had some bad, leaky welds on the frame from the factory or clogged up tubing drains. I watch mine closely, can't allow rust to get a head start anywhere.

Yours looks repairable at this point though. You could cut some tubing lengthwise and weld halves onto those bottoms, then drill drain holes at the lowest points to get several extra years of service life.

I see rotten frames all the time. Some people feel the need to drive into the ocean with their machines and that really does a number on them, but even spending any time on beaches isn’t good for them.
