Hey guys
Posted a while ago about my bike making a grinding noise hauling a trailer.
With some great help from here I'm sure it was the angle bearing on the Hondamatic
I changed the oil and kept using the bike on my property .
It ran fine for the last couple weeks. Hasn't made the grinding sound again.
Last night I went to put some corn out for the deer...bike started up like usual and I put it in drive and started driving. Got about 100 ft and the bike just died...like someone turned the key off. Started it up again and as soon as I put it in drive it died...tried a few more times and everytime it would start in neutral but as soon as I put it in reverse or drive, it dies...
I'm pretty sure it's the the Hondamatic, but wasn't sure .
I always heard that when it goes the bike runs but doesn't drive...didn't know the engine would shut right off .
Is that what happens?
Or is their something else that is wrong?

So a bad Hondamatic won't shut the bike off when put in gear?
I can't say yes or no... there is a pressure switch that blows up in the Hondamatics causing them to fail (whether the wimpy angle bearing is still good or not) too. I've never looked into whether that switch is tied into the ECM ignition loop or not...?

I'd troubleshoot it normally though... it may be something as simple as a frame/harness ground or bad connection in a plug, loose fuse, failing coil etc.

Thanks Retro
Always helping me out lol
I got it running again. Pretty sure it was just a really dead battery.
The starter died a couple weeks ago and after that grinding noise ( Hondamatic) I didn't want to order a starter rebuild kit if the Hondamatic was on its way out.
So I have been using the pull start. So didn't notice the battery was so low. Knew it was the battery today when I turned the key and the time was flashing on the cluster.
Charged the battery this afternoon and it started right up and had no issues driving around the property st all.
Havent gotten a reply from harig as of yet to talk about rebuilding the Hondamatic so still don't know exactly what I'm going to do with the bike.
This was a brand new battery though. So this tells me I have something pulling juice from it when the key is off.
I did install a new winch and a switch for the fan to turn on when I like.
Thinking it's the fam switch

In your other thread concerning the Hondamatic someone posted a Craigslist link to a guy supplying replacement rebuilt trans for $475 (w/core swap) I think? The guy may have been in Minnesota or Wisconsin, can't remember. He posted in Hariq's original thread on the angle bearing fix I think...
