2002 rancher es

My rancher has been an awesome machine. I was just bragging on it a couple of weeks ago how it never breaks. Bad move because it just did! Went to start it and the only thing that happens is I get a solenoid sound under the seat. Since my battery was the original I purchased one. Installed per instructions. Same thing. Although I tap through the gears and it starts occasionally. I think it is the starter, because when it fails if I tap on it it seems like it helps. Any other issues? Is there a good place on-line where I can save a little money on the starter? This is my first post by the way and I did search some threads before I posted.
