New Member needs help, my 2002 500foreman/rubicon cuts off when it gets warm, changed plugs, checked valve adjustment, replaced carb, upon advice from a local 4-wheeler mechanic replaced stator, still cuts out when warm, it also will backfire sometimes when trying to restart, let it cool off and it start no problem, i have a factory manual i have tested, the coil. stator etc. all ok, i lose spark when it shuts off, i am going around in circles and tired of spending money with no results, any ideas, thanks for any and all help

Hello,

Is the motor shutting down as a result of overheating, or does it fail long before it gets hot?

Have you put any aftermarket parts on it?

Are there any other issues with the bike... electrical fault or otherwise?

my money says the c.d.i. is bad. when it cuts off again ?, wrap on the c.d.i. while cranking it over, see if you get spark then with it in the boot, laying on the engine.

i run it for about 5-10 minutes, the engine is at operating temp. but not hot, all parts replaced are oem, when they sent the stator it did not come with the ignition pulse generator, knowing my luck that is the issue which means disassembly again, so i would like to be sure, i havent found a test for the IPG, seems to me that it would be the IPG or the coil seeing as they would get to temp before the cdi which it would seem it wouldnt get hot at all in the back of the machine, i did the test in the manual for the IPG which at the time i thought i was testing the stator, the results were .7 to .9v. which is at spec. so im going to get machine hot and retest the coil and IPG. i will also smack the CDI module just in case, thanks for everyone,s advice, more to follow, later!
