I have a 2002 Honda Foreman (trx450fe) with the ES System, and I cannot find any info on my specific issue. My ATV will not shift at all, no will it start. Either electric or pull start it refuses to start. Electric has no turn over or noise. The manual shifter spins a quarter turn and I can hear it moving a motor but it does not shift the bike. It does not have the "clunk" feel when shifting, it just spins. Can someone please help me out? The display says the bike is in first and flashes three times for angle sensor, but that part is less than 6 months old. The bike rolls in both directions leading me to believe it is in neutral.

I have replaced the angle sensor and this is what the bike is doing

When I turn the key, the screen comes on and shows 1st gear no error flashing

I can Not start the atv at all, nothing happens when I press the start button and when i pull start, the bike computer is stopping the engine with the starter I think.

When I press the shift up and down, I now hear a shifting noise and can see the emergency shifter spin. However the atv does not move gears at all.

When I move the emergency shifter it spins a quarter turn in either direction freely and the screen then begins flashing 3 times which is an angle sensor code.

I feel like this has to be internal mechanical failure, but I do not have a clue as to what. Could it be the shift plate? Please I could use some help.

Just to recap the bike is a 2002 Honda Foreman TRX450FE with ES and 4x4.

Thanks, Joe

When I go to use the emergency shifter it spins with no resistance. It is not jammed at all. It sounds like it turns the shift motor when I spin it. It will go about 90° in either direction. But when I hit the es button it'll move the emergency shifter spindle.

You lost me here... this explanation sounds normal. What are you saying is wrong with it?

You should be able to shift down to neutral and see the neutral light come on. The motor will not start in gear, it has to be shifted to neutral first.

EDIT:
It is also normal for the display to flash the gear indicator after using the manual shifter. You don't need to buy an angle sensor to fix that... it ain't broken.

I missed this part of your explanation, sorry about that. :-(

So yeah, it sounds like something mechanical is wrong with it. I won't speculate on what it is though. I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the internals by reading the service manual before tearing it down.

Appreciate all the help. Tore her down to find that the sub gearshift spindle arm had cracked in two. Ordered the part and hopefully that will fix her. Only has 220 miles on her. With this part ill be in it around 600 bucks. Hopefully I can have some fun on the dunes.
