Hello all! my name is Avery Holyfield and I've got a 2002 Foreman 450S, Recently I've been having issues, When I went to pull my quad out to get it ready for the summer it had developed a strange issue, it appears if there is a direct short to ground under load. I had gotten the quad started using the pull starter and checked the voltage and the battery was being charged. When I flicked my headlight switch the quad shorted to ground and continued to do so even with the headlight switch off. I have checked the regulator/rectifier, CDI box, and the stator with a multimeter and they all seem to be okay. I am at a loss with things that could potentially be the cause, any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Inspect for rodent damage and do a load test on the battery
Download the service manual from the link in my signature block below
I will be doing that later tonight, I do not believe it is the battery as function was completely normal up until I tried to turn the headlights on, and now the battery shows normal voltage until I turn the key on and it sucks down to 2-4 volts.

😎 Don’t install it backwards!!!
Those old 450S are great machines
They absolutely are, I've had nothing but fun with mine thus far, I load tested the battery and that seems to be the culprit, I didn't think it was even in the realm of possibilities because I have never seen a battery short like that, Thank you for your guidance.
