i checked the spark on my 400ex and it sparks but then doesnt spark. its isnt consistant, new plug aswell. any suggestions on what could be happening?

it will only spark during compression stroke so it will be intermitting. did it run before?

ya it ran this morning perfectly fine. now in the afternoon it seems to be giving me some trouble.

is it real cold where you are? 400's are very tempermental when it comes to the cold.

yes daily weather right now is -20 and lower

I'm pretty sure that the weather is your issue, try putting a drop light close to the head and letting it sit there for a bit and see what you got.

The 400EX is a rascal to start. It took me a good little bit to start mine the other day.

I bet if you covered the bike with a blanket it would start better for you all somthing to block cool air from getting to the engine. try it it might work

Yeah, that might work or just put a heating pad around the cylinder and strap it on with one of those rubber tie down straps. That is, if you can find a heating pad that don't automatically cut off after a while.

We use battery warmers on some of the boom lifts we hav they would fit perfect around a head.
