I rebuilt my engine because my trans shot ... Well Its all fixed up now and starts right up and shifts every gear great. Everything seems to be great but some kind of clank noise coming from the very top of my topend. Does anybody know what could be wrong ? I can not figure it out. Also I do not know how to hook up the reverse cable/cord near the brake pedal. Does anybody have any help with this. Thanks!

either your cam or valves aren't set right..sounds like maybe both...does your bike have a decompression lever built into the ex valve ?..i don't think the 300ex's do..could be wrong..anyway..something isn't right on your cam and valves...may want to pull it back apart..and inspect this..also check out your timming chain...as for your reverse lever cable..it should go into a cable holder near the motor case by the brake lever..one bolt holds a metal bracket on the side of the mtor..cable has two nuts on it..one on top and one one the bottom..they tighten together in the bracket..then you should have a little metal arm with two holes in it..one for the end of the cable..the other screws into the reverse shaft sticking out of the bottom side of the motor where your brake is.

300ex doesnt have a decomp lever that's why they do not reckomend a piston larger than 11:1. but shadetree may be correct about the cam or valve adjustment
