Does anybody have any knowledge of the control unit for a 2001 TRX450ES, part # 38910-HN0-A12? Is it supposed to be completely interchangeable with part # 38910-HN0-A11? The part I removed from my ATV is part # 38910-HN0-A12. Looking at Honda parts manuals, it appears that Honda has replaced 38910-HN0-A11 with 38910-HN0-A12. I ordered a new control unit 38910-HN0-A12 from Babbitts part store, but it does not match up with the one I removed from my ATV. The part #s match, but the part itself does not. Two parts side by side attached. Dirtier part is one removed from my atv, other one is new part. You can see the holes are smaller on the new part, and one of the corners of the new part is not completely "rounded". I also bought a used one off of ebay, and was sent the part # 38910-HN0-A11, and it matches the one I received from Babbitts exactly.
So my question is, has Honda changed this part all together? I cannot seem to find one that matches the part that I removed from my ATV, even though the part #s match.
Any help is greatly appreciated

thanks,
Stephen

ok here is MY guess, they look like they have the same connections and a plug should work in both of them
MY guess is over the yrs honda used different venders to MAKE them, and as such each company made THERE"S slightly different , BUT they HAD to re use the same part number to make Honda's life easier!
you can TRY looking for a used on maybe off Ebay if you really wanted to, but I gather if part numbers are the same and plug fits, ITS just fine as is!

A12 is the correct part number.

That's the problem, the harness will not plug into the new part because of the "non rounded corner" and the smaller holes.

then my second guess would be, someone swapped the wiring harness !.

if ya haven't figured it out by now ?, there is no telling who, when, where, how ?, someone may have swapped parts out from one make to another in the atv world !. they just toss parts at them, hoping to get them to run/ride !. I have seen some pretty weird stuff in my 25 plus years of rebuilding atvs, atcs, almost nothing shocks me anymore !..lol.

Still have not figured it out. I have owned the ATV since new in 2001, so wiring harness and control u it are all original. I have sent the part back to babbitts along with some pictures of the part I took off. Hopefully they can match to the correct part I need.

as I said odds are they used a different bender over the yrs to make the part
you can also try contacting other honda dealers and ask if they have one in stock, email your pic's and see if one has one that matches up to yours,as this I gather will be your best chance of getting right one in a timely fashion , or at all maybe!

Personally, to save the headache, I’d get a used item from powersportsnation.com (PSN) at least you know a used one is OEM and made properly, some aftermarket parts are china garbage, this could possibly be your issue with plug fitment.
