purchased a 2001 rubicon off of an old family friend , he used it only to plow his driveway, it has 900 km's on it, when driving around or under load , climbing it make a ratlly clanking noise , sounds like someone left a wrench in the skidplate and it is bouncing around, needless to say there is no wrench and i can't find the source of the noise,, otherwise it runs great but the noise drives you crazy, sounds very metallic..


anyone help

Welcome to the forums. The metal guard on the exhaust pipe isn't loose and rattling, is it?

i will check, where is it located , front back? is there one in perticular? when riding it sounds like the noise is infront of you or right under you..

There's a guard over the pipe on the left side of the engine right under you. When it starts rattling, put the bottom of your boot against it. If it quits rattling, that's the problem.

nope not the sheild, wouldn't the sheild be more of a buzz? this thing really sounds like a 9/16 wrench boucing around in the skidplates..

is it 4x4 ?..if so..sounds like your front u-joint or drive shaft..or maybe even your cv joints ??..other than that..i have no clue..unless your ex keeper bracket is loose ? ( bolts the ex to the head )..check this out.

your welcome..if it would make it easier to listen to..try jacking the bike up off all 4 wheels..start it up..put it in gear..if it's one of the problems i listed..you will be able to locate it alot better this way..if it's your u-joint or cv joints..when you turn the stearing..you will hear the noise from the front cv joint axles as they spin..if it's the front u-joint drive shaft..you will hear it as soon as you put it in gear at idle.

then it's your u-joint in the front drive shaft..least thats what i think...or the metal ex ring that bolts the ex to the head is loose.

2002 foreman rubicon 500 issue

Hey I'm new to the forum and this is me first post.
I just bought a 2002 honda Forman rubicon 500 it has a 2up seat,1 inch lift, warn winch,and an aftermarket warn 4x2/4x4 selector.
The issue I'm having is, when I'm in 4x4 and I get up to 40-45kms either in auto or ESP the back end drops down and makes a grinding noise,(kinda feels like its popping out of gear). When I let go of the throttle its back to normal and when I put in in 2x4 it seems to be fine. So far. Any ideas? I'm stumped.

2002 rubicon slapping sound

I have a 2002 rubicon with a slapping sound when it decelerates, I can't seems to find it. When it happens it feels like the rear brakes are pressed and the rear of the quad dropped. The quad performs just fine and the engine sounds great, has anyone had this happen

You could either have a problem in your differential, or with a CV joint. You should inspect both.
