I have an 01 recon and I think the bearings are bad in the axle. looking at the rear end, it is the left side of the axle that makes a grinding noise, opposite the break, when you spin the wheel. Im not sure what it is but was told that it might be the bearings? - any suggestions on what to do

Welcome to the forums. Yeah, it sounds like the bearings are out.

Do I need to pull the axle to replace the bearings and do you know of a website that I can get a parts diagram? easy fix?

as long as it's the bearings..and not the ring gear or pinion gear !..lol.

can you guys give me some basic directions to get started - Does the axle slide out once I take the locking nuts off and is there a specific way it should come out.

Remove the left hub and right hub, axle nuts, brakes and the axle knocks out the right side.
