Well Im new to the forums and I'm here for some help for my father. He recently purchased an 01 Rancher 350 ES that needs some work. Looks like the person that owned the machine left it outside for the last 9 years. Cables froze, broken plastics, will not shift into reverse, runs only with the choke fully out.... And so on. Before he decides to keep it, he wants to get it to shift into reverse first. And that's where our problem is. The machine doesn't have any owners manual and neither of us are familiar with Honda. So my question is, what are the steps to get the machine into reverse? And is there anyone out there with a copy of the owners manual? I have the service manual that Helmut posted. Now I would like to get the owners manual. So if anyone can help, that would be great.

Welcome to the forums. Push the little red button down on the left front brake lever and then pull the lever back. While holding the lever back, push the down shift button. If it still won't go into reverse, the cable that works the reverse lockout mechanism might be seized or need adjusting.

Let me know if it's a 2wd or a 4wd and I can direct you to an owner's manual.

ADDED: The reason it will only run with the choke out is that the carb needs cleaned.

Yes it does need a lot of TLC. This is basically his first machine. I just don't know if its worth putting the money into the machine to get it operational. He already paid $1200 for the machine and I don't know if he should just get out of it now. I know he got a price for a carb rebuild kit of $30. But If all the cables need replaced, I don't have the first idea of how much that would run. Do you guys think it's worth fixing or should he just try and sell it? BTW it's 4X4 Helmut.

Thanks Helmut. You don't happen to have the service manual for an 09 grizzly 350 IRS 4X4?
No, I don't have the 350 Grizzly service manual. I just have the 600, 660, and 700 Grizzly service manuals.

If the plastic is good and if the engine, differentials and axles are good, I would probably fix it. It's pretty easy to fix the carb and replace cables.
