Not sure where to begin.. This weekend was the first time I was able to actually ride my four wheeler and I mean ride not just putting around my yard. It did fine the first few hours of riding. 5th gear no problem, reverse was fine, starting up was fine, idling was fine. Just before I was gonna wrap it up and load it up it started to die on me. Now whenever I start it with the choke on it will idle for a bit then die, as well as if I have the choke half open or fully open it will die. If the choke is fully open I can slowly idle it up as high as it will go but if I gun it, it will bog down and die. If the choke is half open it will do the same but not as much as if the choke is fully open. I have went through the carburetor cleaned rebuilt air hosed everything out I could and gave it fresh new gas. And it’s still doing the same thing. I also noticed it started tapping a little louder after driving a bit. But it didn’t increase in noise while going faster or reving it up. So I checked the valves and they are still set at the manual settings. I’m kinda at a loss here.. do I need to dig a little deeper in the motor? Is it something simple I’m just over thinking or looking? Idk. Sorry if I’ve left something out. I’d appreciate any and all the help I can get!!

Kinds sounds like maybe it jumped timing. My first guess was a dirty carb but you said you cleaned it. Did you check to make sure the gas tank is venting properly and the fuel flow out of the tank is good?

I’ve checked the time and everything was llined up correctly. Made sure it was TDC the cam lobes where down and the lines on the timing chain sprocket where lined up evenly on both sides. But I’ll check again today after work! I didn’t think about the fuel though.. I haven’t received my s line yet for the tank so the time being I’m just using a longer gas line.. think that could be the culprit? Not getting enough fuel because it’s the wrong line?

Could be. Or its kinked. I have had that heppen before. You really need that formed line to not kink unless you wrapped the line with a spring like i have on my quad rightnow. The heat will soften the line and make it kink after riding it for a while.

I actually have it wrapped around the frame to make sure it does not kink but that doesn’t mean it hadn’t or won’t.. I tried keeping it away from the biggest part that release the most heat but it’s still gonna get hot. So I’ll keep waiting for that s line and see if that helps. So In other words would that be that it’s just getting to much air and not enough fuel causing it to bog and die when I gun it or when I open the choke?

The answer to your first question is yes. It will start and idle with choke because less air in and small amount of fuel will kinda work. But as soon as you give it more air it bogs because its not enough fuel to stay running. And remove the gas cap completely. If it runs without it perfect there is a clog in your vent. Alot of times the tube runs down into the steering stem and it will fill with water causing the tube to not vent. Have had this happen to me before.

So after work today I checked the timing and then made sure the valves were still set correctly and all was good. I took the gas cap off and put about a gallon of gas in it and it fired up and ran just fine.. I shut it off put the cap back on and it ran just fine..no bog or cutting in and out. I had maybe a little less than a quarter tank when all this was going on. So I’m still kinda lost lol was it just not enough fuel in the tank,is the petcock bad. I have no idea.
